Dr. John N. Henry
Med School
Appointment|
Announced
Dr John Nance Henry, who
recently joined Louisiana
State University School of
Medicine in Shreveport as as-sociate
professor of surgery,
will be chief of the section of
cardiac surgery and pediatric
surgery.
A native of Texarkana,
Tex., Dr. Henry's area of
special interest is in surgical
correction of congenital heart
abnormalities. He recently
devised and performed two
corrective procedures for a
congenital heart problem, ac-cording
to the medical school.
Confederate Memorial
Medical Center, teaching
hospital for the medical
school, recently announced
that open heart surgery would
be resumed there under Dr.
Henry.
In October Dr. Henry com-pleted
a fellowship in adult
cardiac surgery at the Mayo
Clinic in Rochester, Minn. He
has served as a clinical in-structor
of pediatric surgery
at Vanderbilt University
Hospital, Nashville, Tenn.
Dr. Henry is a graduate of
Texarkana College, Univer-sity
of Texas Dental Branch,
Vanderbilt University School
of Medicine and holds his
M.S. degree in respiratory
physiology from McGill
University.
He served a surgical inter-nship
at Duke University
Hospital and completed
residency in general surgery
at Montreal General Hospital.
While in the U.S. Army
Medical Corps, Dr. Henry
was assigned to the Division
of Surgery at Walter Reed
Army Institute of Research.
After leaving the service he
completed a residency in
pediatric surgery and
pediatric cardiac surgery at
Montreal Children's Hospital.
Dr. Henry is the grandson
of the late Dr. and Mrs. John
A. Nance of Marshall, Tex.
