Treen to attend rites •
for new wing at LSUMC
Gov. David Treen will be on hand Jan.
22 for ceremonies initiating construc-tion
of the new 11-story wing at LSU
Medical Center.
It will be one of several appearances
the Louisiana governor will make here
on that date.
Ceremonies are scheduled at 4:30
p.m. at the construction site on the south
side of LSU Hospital.
Prime contractor on the $21.1 million
addition is Robert E. McKee Inc. of
Dallas. The wing will adjoin the state
hospital's J-Wing, which is due for re-novation
once the job is completed.
In the new wing will be five patient
floors of 46 rooms each. It will contain
16 operating rooms, a neonatal unit and
an expanded obstetrics department.
The ground floor will be assigned to
central medical supply and some
warehousing, and will have a loading
dock.
On the first floor will be the admit-ting
area and business offices and the
front end of in /out (one-day) surgery.
Surgical suites will be on the second
and third floors, labor and delivery on
the fourth and the neonatal intensive
care department and support facilities
on the fifth.
The five patient floors will be alike,
except for the tenth, which will be made
secure for pyschiatric patients.
Fourth-floor accommodations in-clude
three delivery rooms, a combined
delivery/operating room and a
Caesarean room. The fifth floor will
have guest rooms for parents of infants
in the neonatal intensive care unit. The
present neonatal area will be converted
to pediatrics intensive care.
Each patient floor will have two full-dress
isolation rooms and four more
with 100 percent air exhaust, also for
isolation.
