Dr. Muslow Backed
As Choice for Dean
Confederate Memorial
Medical Center's (CMMC)
Advisory Board last night en-dorsed
Dr. Ike Muslow as its
choice for permanent dean of
the Louisiana State Univer-sity
School of Medicine in
Shreveport.
Dr. Muslow, medical direc-tor
for CMMC, will assume
the post of acting dean for the
medical school April 5.
CMMC is a teaching hospital
for the medical school.
The action came on a
motion by board member
Anna Laura Wilder to recom-mend
the appointment to Dr.
Allen Copping, chancellor of
LSU medical schools. The
board's vote was unanimous.
CMMC director Robert Hall
told the board last night that
Dr. Norman Ott has been
hired to work in the out-patient
clinic, which has been
criticized recently because of
the long waits for patients
seeking treatment at the
clinic.
During February, Hall said,
15,000 patients were treated at
the outpatient clinic, a 6 per
cent increase in patient load
over the past eight months.
Another topic at last night's
meeting up for repeat discus-sion
was malpractice in-surance
for CMMC's medical
staff, including interns and
residents.
Hall said an attorney
general's opinion received by
the hospital said that all
medical staff members must
provide their own malpractice
insurance.
If a judgment is issued
against the hospital in a
malpractice suit and it is
determined that the physician
was at fault, according to the
opinion, the state would take
action to recover the amount
from the doctor, Hall said.
Coverage is available to in-terns
and residents through a
group plan, the board was
told.
