Bids Due on Med School
Apartment Renovation
Bids will be taken Tuesday for
renovation of six buildings at the local
Louisiana State U n i v e r s i t y Medical
School-owned Linwood Apartments. The
work is expected to cost between $150,000
and $160,000, according to Robert Graves,
business manager.
The buildings are being revamped for
use as temporary offices and laboratories
for surgery, pediatrics, radiology, medi-cine,
obstetrdcs-gynecology and psychia-try.
The Birth Defects Center, which
include? the chromosome diagnostic labo-ratory,
will be housed in the pediatrics
building.
Renovation is a "stopgap" proposition
to provide space for the clinical science
departments, "Until our (medical school)
building is completed," Graves said.
The work will include cleaning the
units, wiring, and wiring for window air
conditioning units, painting, and laborato-r
ybench work.
The apartments will be left intact and
no walls will be knocked out between
rooms, Graves said.
"It will just be bare-bones renovation
work," he added.
Expected completion date for the work
is late September.
Associated Medical School Architects
are architects for the project.
The buildings will toe used later for
research work.
The medical school has $20 million in
state funds for the school building and
has been approved, but not funded for $10
million in matching federal funds. The
building will b e constructed on the
grounds of Confederate Memorial Medical
Center between the hospital and the
nursing school.
