Recommendation for a direc-tor
of Confederate Memorial
Medical Center should be ready
before Jan. 1, Harold K. Quinn,
c h a i r m a n of the board of
directors, said last night.
Quinn told the board to be
prepared for two called meet-ings
before the first of the year.
Anna Laura Wilder, head of
the selection committee did not
report last night, but asked to
meet with board officials after
the meeting.
Work on the intensive care
units and the cobalt unit have
not gotten under way, according
to Acting Director Robert Hall,
because specifications require
that all materials be available
before the contractor can shut
down c e r t a i n areas of the
hospital to begin work.
Medical Directory Dr. Rod
Yeager reported that Confeder-ate
has received 47 applications
for interns. These include ten
for medicine, three for pedia-trics,
and 34 rotating interns.
The hospital has 15 interns this
year. More than half of the 31
members of the senior class of
the LSU Medical School at
Shreveport have applied for
internship at Confederate.
Yeager also reported on space
allocation in t h e outpatient
areas.
"We will relook at the alloca-tion
of space within a few
months," Yeager said.
The matter of space in the
new clinic and in the existing
clinics became a matter of
controversy in recent months,
with some chiefs asking that
more space be allotted to them.
Under the plan, pediatrics and
obstetrics and gynecology will
share the first floor of the old
admitting section, with, ophthal-mology
orthopedics afld radiolo-gy
and oral surgery using the
existing second floor space.
The ground floor of the new
building will be used by the
medical records, tumor regis-try,
employe lounge and the
insurance office.
