Graduates
31 Today
Some 31 students received
degrees at the first com-mencement
exercises of Loui-siana
State University Medi-cal
School at Shreveport at
10:30 a.m. today in the Civic
Theater.
A number of dignitaries
were on hand for the ceremo-nies,
among them Gov. Edwin
W. Edwards, who delivered
the commencement address.
DR. EDGAR HULL, who
will rjetire in July as dean of
the school, administered the
Oath of Hippocrates to the 31
new physicians.
Dr. Clifford G. Grulee Jr.,
dean designate of the school,
has been elected president of
the newly formed medical
fraternity Alpha Omega Aloha
(AOA), the only organization
of its kind in the U.S.
Only a sixth of the students
who graduate from a medical
school are tapped for mem-bership,
with selection based
on academic excellence. John
Z. Bowers, n a t i o n a l AOA
president was in Shreveport
this week to p r e s e n t the
charier to the local school's
Gamma Chapter of AOA at
the g r o u p ' s initiation and
inaugural banquet.
JUNIOR MEDICAL stu-dents
inducted include Wil-liam
E. H a l e y of Baton
Rouge, who was also named
chapter vice president; Ri-chard
C. Karam of Earle.
Ark.; Daniel J. Moller Jr. of
Baton Rouge; Carl J. Richard
of Arnaudville, and James V.
Richardson of Marshall, Tex.
