CMMC Slated TIMES
For New Name
The word "charity" in con-nection
with any state hospital
in Louisiana will be relegated
to the past and Confederate
Memorial Medical Center will
be renamed in the interest of
better race relations within
the area, according to state
health officer Dr. Ramson K.
Vidreine.
Addressing a meeting of the
Young Men for Ctood Govern-ment
Monday, Ur. Vidrine
confirmed earlier reports at-tributed
to Gov. Edwin Ed-wards
and Caddo Rep. Alp-honse
Jackson Jr. that CMMC
will be renamed.
Formerly known as Shreve-port
Charity H o s p i t a 1, the
state operated facility's name
was changed following its
construction at Kings High-way
and Linwood Avenue in
1952.
Hospitals included in the
charity category now include
New Orleans Charity Hospital,
Huty P. Long Charity Hospi-tal
in Pineville and Lafayette
Charity Hospital.
