Ohio Dean Offered
Medical School Post

Dr. Clifford G. Grulee Jr.,
dean of the U n i v e r s i t y of
Cincinnati College of Medicine,
Cincinnati, Ohio, has been of-fered
the deanship of Louisiana
State University Medical School
at Shreveport.
This was reported to The
Times yesterday by Dr. William
Stewart of New Orleans, chan-cellor
of the LSU Medical
Center.
Grulee, reached in Miami,
Fla., where he is attending an
Association of American Medi-cal
Colleges meeting, said he
had not yet received Stewart's
letter.
Stewart said that he had
mailed a letter to Grulee in the
past couple of days offering the
position to him for $44,000 a
year — comparable to the
salary he is making at Cincin-nati,
and comparable to the
salary the dean of the LSU
Medical School in New Orleans
receives.
Dr. Edgar Hull, dean of LSU
Medical School here, who sub-mitted
his resignation effective
next July, makes $39,000 a year.
Stewart offered Grulee the
position on behalf of himself and
Dr. Martin W. Woodin, presi-dent
of LSU System. He empha-sized
that even if Grulee ac-cepts
the post, it still has to be
approved by the LSU Board of
Supervisors, which meets Dec.
1.
Said the college dean, "It is
hard for me to react intelligent-ly,
I haven't received the letter.
I left Cincinnati for Miami this
morning."
He said he had obligations in
Cincinnati that must be met and
this would' have to be weighed
against the proposition of LSU.
"I have visited Shreveport on
two occasions," he repeated
twice when asked how seriously
he was considering the post.
And Grulee's wife, the former
Mary Evelyn Lewis, is a native
of Shreveport.
Grulee, a pediatrician, went to
Cincinnati from Tulane Univer-sity
School of Medicine, where1
he was associate dean and
professor of pediatrics.
