Dr. J. R. Hughes
New Staff Chief
At VA Hospital
The appointment of Dr.
James R. Hughes as chief-of-staff
at the Shreveport Veter-ans
Administration Hospital
has been announced by E. P.
Whitaker, hospital director.
A native of Indianapolis,
Ind., Dr. Hughes received his
Doctor of Medicine degree at
Loyola University Medical
School in Chicago, III, in 1938
and completed his medical
internship at St. Anne's Hos-pital
in Chicago.
After serving as a captain
in the Army Medical Corps
during World War II, Dr.
Hughes completed a research
fellowship in medicine at
Cock County Hospital in Chi-cago.
In 1948 Dr. Hughes became
chief^of-medicine at the VA
Hospital, Littl e Rock, Ark.,
and associate professor of
medicine at the University of
Arkansas Medical School. He
joined the staff of the Shreve-port
VA Hospital as chief-of-medicine
in 1952.
Dr. Rughes is a diplomat
of the American Board of
Internal Medicine and a
member of the American
Medical Assn. and the
Shreveport Medical Society.
He holds a faculty appoint-ment
as clinical associate
professor in the Department
of Medicine of the Louisiana
State University School of
Medicine in Shreveport.
