Symposium participant.
Fred J. Stucker Jr., M.D., F.A.C.S., was a ma-jor
participant in the Fourth International Sym-posium
on Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery of
the Head and Neck held recently in Los Angeles,
Calif. The Shreveport surgeon instructed a
course on "Nasal Surgery in the Pediatric Pa-tient."
Dr. Stucker, a recent recipient of the Ira J.
Tresley Research Award, is professor and chair-man,
department of otolaryngology, head and
neck surgery, LSU Medical Center. He serves as
faculty member, instructor or program director
of numerous courses and symposiums for con-tinuing
medical education credit by the Ameri-can
Medical Association, has presented many
lectures and courses and authored courses in his
specialty and has had numerous articles publish-ed
by professional scientific journals.
Physician honored
Dr. Donald K. Haynes of Homer has been
named Louisiana's Outstanding Family Phys-ician
of 1983, an award created this year by the
Louisiana Academy of Family Physicians.
Criteria for selection were the nominated phys-ician's
contribution to community progress,
evidence of civic leadership ability, evidence of
personal standing in the community and service
, through religious and fraternal affiliations.
Dr. Haynes recently was named Preceptor of
the Year by the faculty, staff and students of the
department of family medicine and com-prehensive
care at the LSU Medical Center
School of Medicine in Shreveport, where he has
served since 1978 as a clinical associate
professor in that department.
Service project
The Hathors Club of Shreveport has "adopted"
the LSU Medical Center Children's Center as a
service project. Club activities will include
providing refreshements for the children at the
center, supplying magazines for the parents
waiting room and assisting with community
awareness.
The center, established in 1981 by the LSU
Medical Center School of Allied Health Pro-fessions,
provides multidisciplinary diagnostic
services to children in North Louisiana who have
known or suspected handicapped conditions and
offers technical assistance to school systems and
other agencies that provide educational services
to children. It also serves as a teaching facility in
which students from the LSU Medical Center's
School of Allied Health Professions and School of
Medicine gain experience in working with handi-capped
children.
