Local orthopedist appointed
medical director for health units
The Caddo and Bossier
public health units are no
longer without a medical
director. Dr. Bennett H.
Young, a local orthopedic;
surgeon, is serving both
in that capacity.
As a regional medical
director in the state pub-lic
health system, he sim-ilarly
serves eight other
Northwest Louisiana
health units. His area of
responsibility encom-passes
Bienville, Bossier,
Caddo, Claiborne, De-
Soto, Red River, Sabine,
Lincoln, Natchitoches
and Webster parishes.
Young serves all units
in these parishes both as
unit and regional medical
director. He is head-quartered
in the state of-fice
building at 1525
Fairfield Ave. here.
D-. Sarah Braud of the
state's Office of Health
Services and Environ-mental
Quality appointed
him as regional medical
director last June.
The appointment filled
longtime vacancies in the
position in both the Cad-do-
Shreveport Health
Unit and the Bossier Par-ish
Health Unit. Both had
been without a medical
director since 1978, the
year Caddo's Dr. Patti
Van Hook resigned and
Bossier's Dr. C.L. Landry
died.
Young has practiced
medicine in Shreveport
and Bossier City since
1945. He was in general
practice in Bossier City
for seven years and was
the chief surgeon at
Shriners Hospital for
Crippled Children for 10
years (1958 through
1967). He is a clinical pro-fessor
of orthopedics at
LSU Medical Center in
Shreveport.
Young received his
medical degree from
Tulane University in 1944
and did his internship at
Highland here and his
residency at Tulane, the
former Confederate Me-morial
and Shriners Hos-pital.
He is a native of
Opelousas and a veteran
of World War II and the
Korean War.
