Dr. Hanley takes
posts at LSU, VA
Dr. Henry G. Hanley has assumed
roles as chief of the cardiology sec-tion
at the Veterans Administration
Medical Center and professor and
chief of the cardiology section at LSU
Medical Center.
Hanley, a Harvard University
graduate with a medical degree from
Yale University's School of Medi-cine,
came here from the University
of Kentucky's School of Medicine and
the VA Medical Center in Lexington.
He was associate professor of med-icine
at the medical school and chief
of the cardiology section at the VA
hospital there.
Hanley has done research at
Emory University, Yale University
School of Medicine, Baylor College of
Medicine in Houston, Texas, and the
University of Kentucky College of
Medicine. He was an investigator for
the Howard Hughes Medical In-stitute
while at Baylor.
Here, he will continue his research
on cardiac wall motion ab-normalities
that occur during
myocardial ischemia — when the
heart is not getting enough blood to
meet its needs.
His particular interest in clinical
work is cardiac catheterization, a
technique whereby the condition of
the heart can be assessed before
surgery takes place. He has 11 years
of experience in this technique.
Hanley's internship and part of his
residency in medicine was at Boston
City Hospital, Boston University
Medical Services, in Boston, Mass.
He finished his residency at Grady
Memorial Hospital, Emory Univer-sity
School of Medicine, Atlanta, Ga.,
and was a fellow in cardiology there
from 1969 to 1971.

He has published 21 scientific pa-pers.
Hanley was born in Providence,
R.I. He and his wife, Linda, have two
children, Tara, 5, and April, 1.
