Medical Briefs Gov. Dave Treen will Be in Shreveport on Thursday, officiating at groundbreaking ceremonies for "J" Wing of LSU Hospital. Randle L. Hand and Associates in col-laboration with Century A-E, A Joint Ven-ture Architects, are architects for the $21.1 million, 11-story structure which will house 210,528 gross square feet and con-tain 16 operating rooms plus required support services as well as obstetrical facilities, neonatal intensive care units and patient care floors with a maximum of 46 beds per floor. The new wing — to be located im-mediately south of the main hospital build-ing — will also include admitting and administrative areas, medical supply, warehouse space and other service areas. Ceremonies will begin at 4:30 p.m. Awareness Program Recognized Dr. James Lake of LSUS was honored by the Louisiana Health Care Assocation for his work in developing a program to in-crease patient awareness of nursing home residents throughout Louisiana. Lake's program involves mental agility sessons with residents of nursing homes; developed in Caddo Parish, the program has expanded over the past two years into DeSoto and Webster parishes on a full-scale basis. Lecture on Vitamin D Anthony W. Norman, internationally known doctor of biochemistry for his studies on Vitamin D, will lecture in the LSU Medical Center Auditorium at 11 a.m. on Thursday. Dr. Norman, whose visit to LSU Medical Center in Shreveport is sponsored the the institution's Visiting Scientist Program, is professor and chairman of the department of biochemistry at the University of California, Riverside. His lecture is titled, "From Vitamin D to 1, 25-Dihydrox-ycholecalciferol: Evolution of a Steroid Hormone." The recipient of numerous honors, Dr. Norman is the author of more than 200 publications on the mechanism of the ac-tion of steroid hormones, in particular, cholecalciferol (vitamin D), and calcium and phosphorus homeostasis. 'Coping With Terminal Illness' "Coping with Terminal Illness" will be discussed tonight by Dr. Phillip Osborne, executive director of the Doctor's Hospital Pain Clinic, at the January meeting of the LSUS Psychology Club. To be held in the LSUS University Center theatre, the presentation is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. There is no admission, and the public is invited to attend.
