1975 Med School Budget
Slated for Top Priority
Louisiana State University
School of Medicine in
Shreveport will get top budget
priority in fiscal 1975, the LSU
Medical Center chancellor
said Friday.
Dr. Allen A. Copping of New
Orleans, chancellor, said that
the greatest portion of the
medical center's budget will
come to the new school
opening here.
He said he can not assign
the amount in dollars and
cents because the final
appropriation for the medical
center has not been made- by
the Louisiana Legislature.
So far he noted, $3.2 million
has been approved by the
legislature for the medical
center's fiscal 1975 budget.
But he anticipates approval of
$6.8 million, he said.
T h e e x e c u t i v e
recommendation for the
division of administration was
for $2.9 million, and the House
of Representatives added
$300,000, bringing the total to
$3.2 million.
Work is under way to get
the Senate to "add several
million" to bring the budget
up to the $6.8 million mark, he
said.
Dr. Copping also discussed
opening of the medical school
building under construction
here.
"We hope the building will
be ready" for classes to begin
in September, Dr. Copping
said.
There have been alternate
plans discussed with the
Veterans Administration
Hospital here about
conducting classes there in
the event the building is not
ready for occupancy by
September, he added:
A freshman class of %
students, including 15
females, is expected this fall,
he said It will be the largest
freshman class to enter the
school.
