AMA Professor to Lecture Here
Dr. Kelly M. West, profes-sor
of medicine at the Univer-sity
of Oklahoma Health
Sciences Center College of
Medicine, will present lec-tures
here this week.
Dr. West is coming to
Shreveport as a visiting
professor from the American
Medical Association, Council
on Food and Nutrition.
He is an authority on
nutrition, diabetes mellitus
and nutritional deficiences,
according to Dr. Emil Kot-cher,
professor and head of
t h e department of
microbiology and immunology
at Louisiana State University
School of Medicine in
Shreveport.
At 7:30 p.m. Tuesday Dr.
West will discuss "The
Problem of Defining Normal
and Abnormal in Biology and
Medicine" in a speech to the
Shreveport Sigma XI Club in
the LSUS Science Lecture
Hall.
Lectures to medical
students will be at 9 a.m.
Wednesday at the School of
Medicine in the Veteran's Ad-ministration
Hospital on "The
Epidemilogy of Adiposity," at
11 a.m. Thursday in the Con-federate
Memorial Medical
Center Auditorium on "The
Epidemiology of Diabetes
Milleitus" and at 2 p.m. Thur-sday
at the VA Hospital on
"Diabetes, a Biochemical
Lesion."
In addition to his position
as professor of medicine, Dr.
West is also professor of con-tinuing
education at the
University of Oklahoma Col-lege
of Medicine.
A native of Oklahoma City,
Dr. West attended University
of Oklahoma and University
of Texas and received his MD
degree from the OU school of
medicine in 1948.
He served internship at St.
Luke's Hospital, Chicago, Ill.
and served residencies at St.
Anthony's Hospital, Oklahoma
City, Okla., and University of
Michigan Hospital, Ann Ar-bor,
Mich. He was a fellow in
internal medicine at Joslin
Clinic, Boston, Mass. Dr. Kelly M. West
