Funding for
Med School
Times Washington Bureau
WASHINGTON - The
Department of Health,
Education and Welfare has
allotted $54,228 to the
Louisiana State University
School of Medicine at
Shreveport for student loans
and scholarships for the
present academic year.
The announcement was
made Monday by Sens.
Russell B. Long and J.
Bennett Johnston Jr., and
Rep. Joe D. Waggonner Jr.
Other area loan and
scholarship grants include:
Northeastern Louisiana
U n i v e r s i t y School of
Pharmacy, Monroe, $306,046;
NLU School of Nursing,
M o n r o e , $51,153
N o r t h w e s t e r n State
University School of Nursing,
Natchitoehes, $58,477; LSU
School of Nursing,
Alexandria, $26,347; and
McNeese State University
School of Nursing, Lake
Charles, $25,778.
Germantown Grant
In other federal action
yesterday, the Farmers Home
Administration awarded a
$100,000 grant to the
Germantown Water System to
complete funding for a water
system near Minden. The
grant, made under the
agency's rural development
program, supplements an
earlier grant of $40,000.
Low Rent Houses
In still other federal action,
the Department of Housing
and Urban Development
awarded a $483,660 contract to
the Housing Authority of
Cotton Valley for 20 low-rent
housing units in the Webster
Parish community. Six units
will be especially designed for
the elderly. The rest will be
for general occupancy.
