3rd Abramson Lecturer
Named for Medical School
Dr. Gilbert S. Campbell, professor and
chairman of the Department of Surgery at
University of Arkansas, Little Rock will be
the third Paul D. Abramson Visiting
Professor to speak at the Louisiana State
University School of Medicine in
Shreveport.
Dr. Abramson was a Shreveport
surgeon until his death in 1959 and was in-terested
in training young surgeons.
Dr. Campbell will present two lectures
at Confederate Memorial Medical Center
(CMMC) auditorium Tuesday.
He will discuss "The Relationship of
Pulmonary Function and Physiology to
Surgery" from 8 to 9 a.m. and
"Pulmonary Embolism" from 4 to 5 p.m.
The lectures are open to members of
the medical profession.
Dr. Campbell earned his B.A. degree
from the University of Virginia in 1943 and
his M. D. degree in 1946. He obtained his
M.S. in physiology in June 1949 from the
University of Minnesota, from which he
received his Ph.D. in surgery in 1954.
He served a surgical internship at the
University of Minnesota Hospitals from
April 1,1946, to March 31,1947.
Dr. Campbell has been professor and
chairman of the department of surgery
and chief of the thoracic surgery division
at the University of Arkansas Medical
Center since July 1,1965.
lie is a diplomate of the American
Board of Surgery and the Board of
Thoracic Surgery. Or. Gilbert S. Campbell
