Dean Hunt Opens

Search for a permanent
dean at Louiuiana State
University School of Medicine
in Shreveport began this week
when a seven - member
faculty committee was
appointed.
Dr. Alien A. Copping of New
Orleans, LSU Medical Center
chancellor, appointed the
search committee earlier this
week.
Chairman of the committee
is Dr. Helmut M. Redetzki,
professor and head of
p h a r m a c o l o g y and
therapeutics at the Shreveport
medical school, according to
Dr. Copping.
Acting dean is Dr. Ike
Muslow, who was serving as
medical director for
Confederate Memorial
iedical Center, at the time he
vas appointed acting dean.
He assumed duties as acting
dean April 5
Dr. Clifford G. Grulee Jr.,
dean of the medical school,
was named vice chancellor of
the LSU Medical Center, also
effective April 5.
The faculty committee is
charged by the chancellor
with searching for candidates
for the deanship, screening
the candidates, then
recommending to him the
name of the person they
select.
Dr. Copping will make his
recommendation for the new
dean to Dr. Martin D. Woodin,
president of the university
system, who in turn makes his
recommendation to the LSU
Board of Supervisors.
Final decision made by the
board of supervisors.
