Center Starts
New Program
A Visiting Scholar program is
being initiated at the Birth
Defects Center of Louisiana
State University School of Medi-cine
in Shreveport, according to
Dr. Richard C. Juberg, center
director.
The program is getting under
way with a $300 grant from the
Damon Foundation, Inc. of
Needham Heights, Mass.
Purpbse of the program is to
bring authorities in their field to
Snreveport to present findings
and discuss work before faculty
and students, said Juberg.
He feels "it will broaden our
understanding and enable us to
serve our patients better."
This is the third grant the
foundation has given to the local
medical school this year. Grants
have also been given to the
Department of Anatomy and the
Department of Microbiology and
immunology.
The executive director of the
group wrote Juberg that while
"it is highly unusual for us to
give three grants, or even two,
to the same institution, we Heel
that you have outlined a very
specific need in your depart-ment
that should be met."
Juberg said he hopes to make
the visiting scholar an annual
event. Persons interested in
contributing to the nrogram
should contact him at the Birth
Defects Center.
