BATON ROUGE, La. (AP)
— Dr. Charles Mary, who
heads the Louisiana Health
and Social and Rehabilitation
Services Administration, got a
$9,700 a year pay increase
from Gov. Edwin Edwards
last month.
The increase put Mary's
salary at ($55,300 a year. He
also uses a state-owned home
without charge, and is allocat-ed
a $3,000 maintenance allow-ance
annually.
Formerly the director of
Charity Hospital in New Or-leans,
Mary became director
of tihe new ''superhealth agen-cy"
Nov. 16.
QUOTING FROM state re-cords,
The New Orleans
States Item said today Mary
got his pay increase as a
result of a letter by Edwards
dated May 30. The pay hike
took effect June 1.
The letter grr-nted Mary an
annual salary of $55,000, but
the hospital reported its re-cords
show he receives anoth-er
$300 a year.
The 36-year-old doctor was
associate director of Charity
Hospital in 1969 at a salary of
$28,000 a y e a r . This was
increase in February, 1970, to
$34,800.
THE FOLLOWING month
Mary became d i r e c t o r of
Charity and his salary went to
$40,800 and then to $45,600 the
following September.
