Homer Housewife Is Chairman
Panel Named to Seek
NewDirector for CMMC
By Margaret Martin
Times Medical Writer
Anna Laura Wilder, Homer
h o u s e w i f e , has been named
head of the selection committee
to seek a replacement for Dr.
Edgar Galloway, director of
Confederate Memorial Medical
Center.
She was one of 11 committee
chairmen announced yesterday
by Harold K. Quinn, head of the
Confederate Board of Directors.
The board approved Gallo-way's
resignation at an Aug_. 25
meeting. In his letter to Quinn,
Galloway, who is 78, said he felt
he was still m e n t a l l y and
Physically capable of being the
director but offered to step down
if the board wanted him to.
On a 6-4 vote the board agreed
to Galloway's resignation, but.
asked him to stay until another
director could be found.
Galloway's job is a political
appointment. This is not the
first time he has been removed
following the election of a new
governor. (The board actually
selects the hospital director,
but the governor picks the
board.)
Galloway was first named
director of Confederate's pre-cessor.
Charity Hospital, in 1940
under Gov. Sam Jones adminis-tration.
He continued under the first
administration of Gov. Jimmie
H. Davis from 1944 to 1948, but
Gov. Earl K. Long replaced
him with Dr. W. S. Harmon in
1948 and again in 1956. Galloway
was reappointed again in 1961
and has served continuously
until now.
He also served a two year
stint from 1954 to 1956 when he
replaced Dr. C. S. Sentell of
Minden who resigned.
Shreveporter Dr. J. Dudley
Talbot was named vice chair-man
of the selection committee.
Other members are Dr. W. J.
Hill Jr. and Dr. James Tucker,
both of Shreveport; Andre Joyce
of Minden, and Wilbur T. Purvis
of Mansfield.
Quinn named himself execu-tive
committee chairman.
Members of the other panels
are:
Building and Grounds — Hill,
chairman, and the Rev. Abra-ham
Davis of Shreveport.
Budget — Talbot, chairman;
Mrs. Wilder and Dr. J. D.
