Three Local
Doctors Going
To Meeting
Representing the Shreveport
area at the annual Congress on
Medical Educationatthe Palmer
House in Chicago, Ill., Sunday
and Monday will be three area
doctors.
Present at the sessions will be
Dr. Edgar Hull, dean of the
Louisiana State University Medi-cal
School at Shreveport; Dr.
George Meneely, associate dean
of the school; and Dr. Charles
Black, Shreveport surgeon, and
member of the board of direc-tors
of the Confederate Memorial
Hospital.
One of the keynote speakers at
:he meeting will be Dr. William
H. Stewart, surgeon general of
the U.S. Public Health Service,
who is a graduate of the LSU
Medical School at New Orleans,
and took his residency at the
Charity Hospital in New Orleans.
He will discuss "Relation of
Medical Schools to the Surround-ing
Community."
An analytical look at major
issues confronting- medical edu-cation
will also be made at the
congress.
Dr. W. Clarke Wescoe, chair-man
of American Medical Asso-ciation's
the Council on Medical
Education, which is sponsoring
the meeting said, "The congress
as a whole has been deliberately
designed to highlight the diverse
viewpoints of these issues.'"
The congress will include:
A critical reappraisal of surgi-cal
teaching for medical stu-dents.
An airing of views on two
major reports concerning medi-cal
and graduate medical educa-tion.
A look at "Medical Manpower:
A Continuing Crisis" with an
emphasis on qualitative, as well
as quantitative, considerations.
An exploration of medical
school and community inter-relationships
by means of case
studies.
