LSU Gets
Titles to
Property
Louisiana S t a t e University
President John I. Hunter yes-terday
accepted titles to the
Linwood Apartment project and
the Nike-Hercules Missile site
from two federal government
officials, for the LSU Medical
School at Shreveport.
The 296-unit apartment com-plex
was purchased from the
Federal Housing Administration
for $400,000 and the former
missile base was donated by the
Department of Health, Education
and Welfare for use by the
medical school.
Presenting the deeds to Dr.
Hunter was O. P. Heffington
director of the .Federal Housing
Administration in Shreveport and
James F. Neville of Washington,
D.C., operations commissioner,
and Sam G. Wynn of Dallas.
Tex., regional representative of
the Division of Surplus Property
Utilization of the Department of
HEW.
LSU plans to continue to
operate the apartments as a
housing project, but long range
plans call for utilization as
faculty and student housing and
medical school expansion.
The missile site will be con-verted
into research facilities
and animal quarters for the
school.
Several prominent area per-sons
were. present for the
ceremonies, including members
of the area legislative delegation,
parish and city officials, mem-bers
of the LSU Board of
Supervisors, and business lead-ers.
