US Elects
Shreveporter
As President
. Dr. Walter T. Snow, Shreve-p
o r t radiologist, has been
elected president of the Loui-siana
Thoracic Society, medi-cal
section of the American
Lung Association of Louisia-na,
Inc.
Determined by a mail vote
of the Society's 500 members
voting on a double slate,
R o n a l d B. George, M.D.,
associate professor of medi-cine
at LSU Medical Center in
Shreveport, was re-elected
vice-president. Both men will
serve on the Board of the ALA
of La., Inc., in ex officio
capacities as a result of their
Society positions.
Judith A. Harris, M.D., New
Orleans pediatrician, was re-,
elected secretary-treasurer.
Stephen J. Herbert, M.D.,
staff physician with the U.S.
Public Health Service Hospi-tal
in New Orleans, is the
retiring president and will
serve ex officio on the LTS
Governing Council during the
coming year.
Elected to two-year terms
as members of the governing
Council were: Bettina C. Hil-man,
M.D., Shreveport pedia-trician;
Albert L. Stephens,
M.D., Shreveport private
practitioner; and Clay A.
Waggenspack, Jr., M.D., Ba-ton
Rouge chest specialist.
Continuing as members of
the Governing Council are:
Howard A. Buechner, M.D.,
the Society's Representative
Councilor to the American
Thoracic Society, who is chief
of medical services for the
New Orleans Veterans Admin-istration
Hospital; William W.
Coulter, Jr., M.D., Lafayette
chest specialist; Hurst B.
Hatch, Jr., M.D., Ochsner
Clinic chest specialist; and
Russell C. Klein, M.D., LSU
Medical School in New Or-leans
pulmonary diseases spe-cialist.
Daniel H. Mattson, M.D.,
chief of medical services for
the V.A. Hospital in Shreve-port,
has been named a
special representative to the
LTS Governing Council by
Revius 0. Ortique, Jr., Esq.,
President of the ALA of La.,
Inc.
The Society is composed of
physicians from throughout
the state who are interested in
lung diseases. It is a formal
chapter of the ATS. and
serves as an advisory body to
the Board of Directors of the
State Lung Association. Dr. Walter T. Snow
