LSU supervisors hold
short Shreveport meeting
The LSU Board of Su-pervisors
selected its an-nual
Shreveport visit to
hold one of its shortest
meetings to date today.
The board, which ac-cording
to one official
tries to meet at the LSUS
campus each March, ap-proved
committee re-ports,
heard a report on
the college desegregation
consent decree and a re-port
from LSU System
President Martin Wood-in.
iDr. Joe Reynolds, LSU
vice president for
academic affairs, told
the board that no de-.
cisions have been made
concerning a report sub-mitted
March 15 by a
panel appointed to make
recommendations which
would further de-segregate
Shreveport-
Bossier colleges.
The board will meet
Wednesday to determine
"how well the parties are
coming together," Rey-nolds
said referring to
the negotiations which
are going on between the
state Board of Regents,
the Southern University
system, Bossier Parish
Community College, the
LSU system and the U.S.
Justice Department.
The parties have until
May to either reach an
agreement or the case
will go back to court.
Reynolds also com-mended
the LSU allied
health professions pro-gram
which will be used
to upgrade programs at
Southern University-New
Orleans, Southern-Baton
Rouge and Grambling
State University. The al-lied
health center was not
part of the desegregation
problem but has become
part of the solution, he
said.
In other action, the
board honored Dr.
Frederick Ratzburg, the
oldest living former of
the board. Ratzburg was
presented a plaque.
