Dr. Constantinidas to speak in U.S.S.R.
Dr. Paris Constantinidas, professor of pathology
at LSU Medical Center, has been invited to speak at
an international symposium on medical and sur-gical
treatment of ischemic heart disease at
Tbilisis in the Georgian Soviet Socialist Republic in
June.
Georgia, on the Black Sea, is one of the 15
constituent republics of the U.S.S.R.
While there, Constantinidas will visit the Re-search
Institute of Therapy, which specializes in
research on aging, working with people purported
to be 120 to 130 years old.
1980, she was employed at the VA Medical Center
in Denver, Colo., where she acquired special skills
in the organ transplant unit.
Dental association
Dr. Skip D. Buford and Dr. Kaylan F. Worley of
Shreveport have been installed in the Louisiana
Dental Association as speaker of the house of
delegates and as editor, respectively.
Hypertension program Research grant
A staff dietitian has joined the registered nurse
in Willis-Knighton Medical Center's weekly
hyertension screening program.
This free ongoing service is offered each
Wednesday from 2 to 4 p.m. in Room 299 at the
hospital as part of Willis-Knighton's community
health program.
The dietitian will give practical advice on select-ing
and preparing food for control of hypertension.
Dr. Gary Kinasewitz of LSU Medical Center has
received a $30,000 research grant from the Ameri-can
Lung Association for a study titled "The
Dynamics of Visceral Pleural Fluid Exchange."
Kinasewitz is an assistant professor in the
pulmonary diseases section of the department of
internal medicine.
Urodynamics
Cystic fibrosis
Dr. Claude Pasquier, urologist, and Donna
Flores, registered nurse, will speak to the Associa-tion
of Operating Room Nurses Thursday 8 at 7
p.m. at Schumpert Medical Center. The program
will be on urodynamics.
Head nurse named
Irene Lombardino has been named head nurse on
Surgical Ward 5-East at the Veterans Adminis-tration
Medical Center. She was promoted from
staff nurse in general surgery.
Miss Lombardino has been with the Veterans
Administration since her graduation from the bac-calaureate
program of Northestern State Univer-sity
College of Nursing here in 1975. From 1976 to
Community chairmen for the spring fund drive
of the Louisiana Chapter of the Cystic Fibrosis
Foundation have been named by Dr. John L.
Ochsner, state chairman.
They are Molly Doris Roberts of Campti, Coach
Ron Hayes of Vivian, Merdis L. Holyfield of
Athens, Coy Hassell of Gloster and Grand Cane,
Johnny Jacobs and Charles Hines of Gibsland, Mrs.
Billy Wayne Leone of Zwolle, Felton Crossland and
Frank DeLoach of Dubberly, Jeanne Brackman
and Mary Osborn of Rodessa and Penny Shelton of
Winnfield.
Cystic fibrosis is a genetic disease that primarily
attacks the lungs and digestive system. While no
cure has been found, there has been advance in
increasing the longevity among victims of the
disease — from 3 years of age 25 years ago to past
20 today, according to the foundation.
