Local Heart Seminar Hears Noted Physicians
Two noted teaching physicians
were the featured speakers at a
one-day seminar on "Diagnostic
and Therapeutic Implications of
Coronary Disease," held yester-day
at Schumpert Memorial
Hospital.
Addressing the meeting of
physicians from throughout
Louisiana, East Texas and Ar-kansas
were Dr. Patrick H.
Lehan, professor of medicine
and cardiology at the University
Medical Center in Jackson,
Miss., and Dr. Jerry E. Goss,
director of cardiovascular labo-ratory
at Presbyterian Hospital
and assistant professor of medi-cine
at the University of New
Mexico School of Medicine in
Albuquerque, N.M.
The seminar was cosponsored
by the Louisiana State Universi-ty
Medical School in Shreveport
and the Louisiana Heart Asso-ciation
in cooperation with the
Heart Center at Schumpert
Hospital. It was approved for
six prescribed hours by the
Louisiana Academy of Family
physicians.
'Coronary Circulation and
Angiography" and "The Role of
Exercise Testing in the Cardiac
Patient' were the topics of Dr.
Lehan, while Dr. Goss spoke on
"Medical Management of Coro-nary
Artery Disease" and "Sur-gical
Management of Coronary
Artery Disease."
Morning and afternoon panel
discussions were moderated by
Dr. Robert T. Lafargue and Dr.
Edgar Hull and the panelist
were Dr. Richard Barnett, Dr.
Herbert S. Tucker and Dr. J. W.
Wilson Jr.
Dr. Lehan, a consultant in
cardiology at the Veterans Ad-ministration
Hospital in Jack-son,
Miss., has authored numer-ous
articles. He is certified by
the American Board of Internal
Medicine and Subspecialty Car-diovascular
Diseases and is a
fellow of the American College
of Physicians, the American
College of Cardiology and the
Council of Clinical Cardiology,
Mississippi Heart Association.
A diplomate of the American
Board of Internal Medicine and
the American Board of Cardiov-ascular
Diseases, Dr. Goss had
received awards in chemistry
from the University of Kansas,
scholarship awards from Nor-thwestern
University Medical
School in Chicago and was a
post-doctoral research fellow of
the National Health Institute.
He also has authored numerous
publications.
