76 Nurses Will Attend Seminar Here
Seventy-six nurses from
throughout the Ark-La-Tex have
signed up for a postgraduate
seminar for nurses on "Labor
and Delivery and Nursery"
which is being held through
tomorrow at the Willis-Knighton
Hospital.
The sessions are cosponsored
by the hospital and the Louisia-na
State University School of
Medicine at Shreveport.
Speakers today are Dr. Arthur
T. Fort, professor and head of
the Department of Obstetrics
and Gynecology at the medical
school; Dr. Juan J. Gershanik,
assistant professor of pediatrics
at the medical school; Dr.
Ralph W. Baucum, assistant
professor of pediatrics, medical
school, and Dr. Joseph A. Little,
p r o f e s s o r and head of the
Department of Pediatrics, medi-cal
school.
Fort will discuss ''Maternal
Alimintation," while Baucum's
topic will be "Parenteral Thera-py
of Sick Neonates," and
Little's, "The Nursery Rain-bow:
The Blue, the Yellow and
the Pale Neonate."
Gershanik will speak on
"Feeding of Normal Term and
Low Birth Weight Neonates,"
"The Adequate, the Small and
the Large for Gestational Age.
The Premature and Postmature
Neonate," and "Syphillis-Gonor-rhea-
Rubella Nursery Out-breaks."
Joining the group tomorrow
will be Dr. Richard Juberg,
director of the medical school's
Birth Defects Center, who will
talk about "Genetic Causes of
Conginital Deformilities Appar-ent
in the Newborn," and Dr.
Ike Muslow, director of contin-uing
education at Willis-Knigh-ton,
who will give closing
remarks at the end of the
meeting.
Gershanik's topics tomorrow
will deal with "Respiratory
Distress Oxygen: A Dangerous
Drug," "S eizures Hypoglyce-mia.
Hypocalcemia," "Transfer
of a Sick Infant to a Referral
Hospital," and "Regional Inten-sive
Care Nursery: A Luxury or
a Necessity?"
Fort will discuss "Tender
Loving Care in Nurseries ,
Mama's Side. Baby's Side."
