Dr. Juberg
To Discuss
Birth Defects
Dr. Robert Juberg, director
of the Ark-La-Tex Birth Defects
and Genetic Counseling Center
of Louisiana State University
Medical School at Shreveport,
will speak to the Caddo-Bossier
Council for Exceptional Child-ren,
today at 3:30 p.m. at
Caddo School for Exceptional
Children.
A graduate of Carleton Col-lege
in Northfield, Minn., Dr.
Juberg received M.S., M.D.,
and Ph.D. degrees from the
University of Michigan. He
interned at Charity Hospital in
New Orleans and took his
residency in pediatrics at Tu-lane
University, Charity Hospi-tal,
and the University of
Chicago Clinic.
He is a member of numerous
professional organizations, in-cluding
the American Society of
Human Genetics, the American
Eugenics Society, and the Wes-ter
Society for Pediatric Re-search.
His study, "A Genetic
Evaluation of Bituminous Coal
Miners", was authorized and
financed by the Appalachian
Laboratory for Occupational
Respiratory Health Sciences of
the National I n s t i t u t e s of
Health.
Because of wide-spread inter-est
in the Birth Defects Center,
the Council for Exceptional
Children has extended an open
invitation to educators and the
general public.
The special educators who
comprise the council are espe-cially
concerned with the genet-ic
research which directly af-fects
educational and rehabilita-tional
needs of children. Of
particular interest are prob-lems
of congenital deafness,
blindness, mental retardation,
and malformations such as cleft
palate.
Dr. Juberg will discuss the
functions of the Birth Defects
and Genetic Counseling Center,
explaining the investigative,
diagnostic, and therapeutic
phases of the program. Howev-er,
a portion of the session will
be devoted to questions and
answers, persuing the special
interests and concerns of the
group.
