Mallory Page Hall Will Present
'A Look at Universal Art' at WDC
Members and guests of the
Woman's Department Club will
have an opportunity to take "A
Look at Universal Art" next
Tuesday, Nov. 21, when Mallory
Page Hull, noted local artist,
s p e a k s at 10 a.m. at the
Margaret Place clubhouse.
Mrs. Hull, whose works are
currently being exhibited in the
lower level of the education
wing, is being presented by the
art department, of which Mrs.
Jack C. Murrell is chairman.
A true internationalist, Mrs.
Hull was born in Mobile, Ala.,
lived in Lake Charles and won a
B.A. degree from Our Lady of
the Lake College in San Antonio,
Tex. Following this she studied
at Fountainebleau, Ecole des
Beaux Arts in France, with
many trips to Paris and the
chateau country.
Thereafter teaching left her
little time for painting but
during her summer travels to
Hawaii and later to Mexico City
gave Mrs. Hull an opportunity
to do both portraits and land-scapes.
The artist is married to Dr.
Edgar Hull, and during his
career he has been invited to
teach at several schools abroad,
and she has had the opportunity
to tudy in these places. In 1950,
they and their two children
spent nine months in I t a l y
where he taught at the Univer-sity
of B o l o g n i a , and she
studied frescos and the restora-tion
of paintings.
They next went to Taiwan
where Mrs. Hull took instruc-tions
in Chinese art and scroll
work with the results exhibited
in the International Cooperation
Association in Taipei. The sum-mers
of 1970 and 1972 were
spent in El Escorial in Spain
where Mrs- Hull completed four
more works. The morning pro-gram
will be followed by a
coffee.
The last class of the first
session of the art-needlework
course will meet on Monday
afternoon, Nov. 20, and the
French classes will also be held
at that time. The regular art
class is scheduled for Wednes-day,
Nov. 22, at 9:30 a.m. with
the w e e k l y duplicate bridge
s e s s i o n calendared for one
o'clock that afternoon.
The club will be closed until
M o n d a y , Nov. 27, for the
Thanksgiving holidays.
