The Phyllis W. Pellitz Education Fund at the
Louisiana State University Medical School at Shreve-port
was formally established yesterday. The fund
was made possible with the donation of $10,000 in

Med Students
Establishment of the Phyllis
W. Pellitz Education Fund at
Louisiana State U n i v e r s i t y
School of Medicine at Shreveport
was announced yesterday by Dr.
Edgar Hull, dean of the school.
The fund was made possible by
donation of $10,000 in stock by
Clinton W. Fuller of Shreveport.
The fund will .finance a student
loan program, said Dr. Hull.
The gift was formally accepted
yesterday by the LSU Board of
Supervisors which met in Baton
Rouge.
"My mother was a frequent
visitor to Shreveport and always
maintained a deep interest in
youth," said Fuller, "particular-ly
the education of young folks.
"The salvation of our whole
society depends upon education,"
he said, "and I am pleased to be
able to contribute what I can to
aid any students in our new
medical school who might have
emergency financial needs."
Dr. Hull said the Pellitz Fund
is the first of its type to be
established in the school, which
accepted its initial class of 32
freshmen students for medical
training in September, 1969.
Proceeds of sale of the stock
has been invested and the annual
interest accrued will be made
available for student loans, Dr.
Hull pointed out.
"Mr. Fuller's generous gift will
help fill a vital need of our
present and future students, and
I know will lead other friends of
education and LSU to consider
similar bequests to broaden
e d u c a t i o n a l opportunity of
youth."
