Dean Given
Club Award
Dr. Edgar Hull, dean of the
Louisiana State University -
Shreveport M e d i c a l School,
was presented the 1970 "Out-standing
Citizenship Award" at
noon today by the North
Shreveport Lions Club.
He was cited for his "consist-ent
and meritorious service
and for his many contributions
to the development of the
LSU-Medical School here as a
public service and as a basic
element of better health and
welfare for all citizens."
Shreveport Mayor Clyde E.
Fant presented the certificate,
. and Albert Meek was program
chairman.
Dr. Hull was also given a
lifetime membership to the
North Shreveport Lions Club
by its members.
An article entitled "The
D o c t o r 's Doctor," written
about the dean, was recently
published in the "Louisiana
Family Doctor" magazine.
A 1927 graduate of Tulane
University, Dr. Hull interned
at Highland Clinic here and
joined the LSU School of
Medicine staff in 1931, when he
was also appointed to the staff
of Charity Hospital in New
Orleans.
He was named chairman of
the LSU Department of Medi-cine
and chief of LSU at
Charity Hospital in 1940. He
still holds both positions.
In 1954 the physician was
appointed associate dean of the
LSU School of Medicine, later
becoming the dean of the
Shreveport school.
Dr. Hull has been president
of the Louisiana Heart Assn.,
New Orleans Graduate Medical
Assembly and Orleans Parish
Medical Society. He has also
served as second vice presi-dent
of the American College
of Cardiology, vice president of
the American College of Physi-cians
and the American Heart
Assn.
The dean is also on the
visiting and consulting staffs of
Mercy Hospital, Touro Infir-mary
and Southern Baptist
Hospital.
