Radiology Facility Bids

The Confederate M e m o r i a l
Medical Center Board of Direc-tors
announced! last night that it
will open bids on alterations and
revision of the Radiology Depart-ment
which will be used to house
$90,000 in equipment.
The equipment has been sitting
in the basement of Confederate
because no funds were available
for renovation which must be
done to the third floor Radiology
Department before the machi-nery
can be installed.
Bids will be taken Tuesday at
10 a.m. in the board room.
Funds became available when
the Division of Administration
authorized transfer of $90,877
from the budget's personal serv-ices
category to its equipment
account.
Robert Hall, assistant adminis-trator
at Confederate, said the
renovation is expected to cost
$45,000. Another $45,877 of the
$90,877 will go to pay Nuclear
Medicine Co. of Chicago, for
isotope equipment.
Two Doctors Resign
The board accepted the resig-nations
of two visiting staff
heads of services at the hospital
and appointed Dr. Jack Wesley
Gamble chief of oral surgery.
Dr. Dudley Isom, who has
served as chief of oral surgery
since the program was approved
in the middle 1950s, and Dr. Leon
F. Gray, who was appointed
chief of ophthalmology in 1963,
submitted resignations last .night.
Dr. Gamble is a native of
Minden and has served as chief
of oral surgery and assistant
chief of dental services for the
U.S. Public Health Service Hos-pital,
Seattle, Wash.
He was educated at Northwes-tern
State College, Loyola Uni-versity
Dental School and served
his internship at the U.S. Public
Health Service Hospital.
He served his residency at the
Armed Forces Institute of Path-ology,
Walter Reed Army Hospi-tal,
and the Medical College of
Richmond, Va.
He has also served as chief of
dental services at the Public
Health Hospital, Houston, Tex.,
and chief of oral surgery and
assistant chief of dental services
at the National Institute of
DR. JACK W. GAMBLE
Dental Research, Bethesda, Md.
The new department head is a
member of numerous medical
societies, and is a Diplomate of
the American Board of Oral
Surgery and the International
Association of Oral Surgeons.
Staff Positions Filled
Approved for visiting staff
appointments were Dr. John W.
Berry, urology; Dr. Peter, B.
Boggs, Sternal medicine, aller-gy;
Dr. Charles F. Campbell,
thoracic and vascular surgery;
Dr, Oscar K. Allen German,
obststHcs^ and gynecology; Dr
Erich K._Lang, radiology; Dr.
Joseph M . Lattier Jr., oral
surgery, and Dr. James L. Zum
Brunnen, orthopedic surgery.
Dr. Lattier was approved for
junior privileges, while all the
other doctors were approved- for
senior privileges.
Dr. Charles Black reported
that the Pines Sanatorium had
treated 55 patients and 146
outpatients last month. Eleven
patients were admitted to the
institution and 12 were dis-charged'.
The hoard also voted to
request $6.1 million for its long
range capital outlay program.
Hall pointed out that the pro-gram
is the same as one
submitted last year, with an
additional $200,000 to take care of
increased labor costs
