Fowler Two State Heart Groups To Hold Sessions Here The Louisiana and Arkansas Heart Associations will present a series of scientific sessions for physicians and nurses Friday and Saturday at the Convention Center. Physicians and nurses from Louisiana, T e x a s , Oklahoma, Mississippi, Arkansas, I o w a , New York and I l l i n o i s are expected to attend. The pro-gram is cosponsqred by the Louisiana State University Med-ical School in_Shreveport and the American Heart Associa-tion's Council on Clinical Car-diology. The program will open Friday with a discussion by Dr. Noble Fowler, director of the division of cardioloey, department of in-ternal medicine, at the Univer-sity of Cincinnati, Ohio. He will speak on "Bedside Diagnosis of Cardiomyopathy. Friday afternoon's s e s s i o n will be devoted to coronary artery disease from the medical and surgical standpoint. Dr. Henry I. Russek, a cardiologist of Staten Island, N.Y., will speak on "Medical Treatment of Ische'mic Heart Disease." Dr. Joe Holoubek of Shreve-port will preside over Saturday m o r n i n g 's session and the s p e a k e r will be Dr. David Sabiston Jr., professor and chairman of the department of surgery at Duke University at Durham, N.C. Also this week the Louisiana Heart Association will hold its 22nd annual meeting and elect officers and board of directors members for the coming year. Their activities will include a review of cardiopulmonary re-suscitation at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Captain Shreve Hotel by members of the Shreveport Fire Department. Friday afternoon a risk factor program for leaders in industry, business, labor and education will be presented at the Conven-tion Center annex. Dr. Joseph Kern, professor of pharmacy at Northeast Louisiana University at Monroe and chairman of the board of the Louisiana Heart Association, will preside. A s y m p o s i u m for science teachers on heart disease will be held at the C o n v e n t i o n Center annex at 9 a.m. Satur-day. Dr. Roland Abegg, head of the' department of zoology at Louisiana Tech University at Ruston, will preside. He is also vice president of the Heart Association. Helen Corbitt, a consultant for Neiman-Marcus at Dallas, will speak on "Eat for Your Heart's Sake" at a luncheon Saturday.
