Two Shreveport Doctors
Honored at Annual Meet

LAFAYETTE — Two Shreve-porters
received top honors at
the final session of the Louisia-na
Medical Society's annual
meeting which ended here yes-terday
morning.
Dr. Eugene St. Martin, urolo-gist,
was named president-elect
of the society, while Louisiana
State University Medical School
at Shreveport Dean Edgar Hull
was selected to receive the
g r o u p ' s first "Distinguished
Service Award," which was set
up last year.
The award was given for
outstanding service to the medi-

cal profession, and specifically
for "his work as an internist,
cardiologist and especially as a
teacher." Hull was named dean
of the medical school here in
1966.
St. Martin defeated Dr. Frank
J. Allen, Baton Rouge internist,
for the president-elect post,
meaning he will automatically
become president next year.
The election was preceded by
several days of campaigning by
supporters from both camps.
Another Shreveporter, Dr. J.
Woodfin Wilson, internist, who
was first vice president of the
group last year, was elected
councilor for the 4th District.
Dr. Ralph Riggs of Shreveport,
was re-elected delegate to the
American Medical Association,
and Dr. S. L. Gill was re-elected
alternate delegate to the AMA.
Dr. H. H. Hardy of Alexandria
was re-elected chairman of the
house of delegates.
Other new officers include
Dr. James H. Stewart of New
Orleans, first vice president:
Dr. F. Michael Smith of Thibo-daux,
second vice president, and
Dr. A. W. Beacham of Lafay-ette,
third vice president.
O f f i c e r s were elected and
resolutions were passed in a
closed meeting of the house of
delegates yesterday. The meet-ing
was c l o s e d , said LMS
official Paul Perrett, "because
we don't wash our dirty linen in
public."
