LSU Official To Attend Georgia Meet
Dr. Edgar Hull, dean of the
Louisiana State University Medi-cal
School at Shreveport, is one
of 20 medical school deans who
will attend a seminar for newly
appointed deans of medical
schools at the Savannah Inn on
Wilmington Island, Ga.
Mrs. Hull will also participate
in the meeting in sessions
designed, and conducted for
wives of deans.
The series is being sponsored
by the Association of American
Medical Colleges, with a grant
from the John and Mary R.
Markle Foundation. ,
The deans represent over
two-thirds of the deans currently
in office who were appointed
since 1966 in United States and
Canadian medical schools.
The officials will have an
opportunity to discuss their jobs
and problems in the seminar,
which is the first in a series.
The meetings were organized
in response to the growing need
to identify the board complexi-ties
of medical school adminis-tration
and personal fields of
force which affect the deanship,
pressures to which those in such
positions are exposed, and possi-ble
methods of coping with these
pressures.
A behavioral approach will be
used to consider such topics as
the role of the dean, the nature
of his office, the extent of his
authority, personnel problems
and other significant concerns as
suggested by questionnaires, in-terviews
and group discussions.
Dr. R. L. Meiling of the Ohio
State University College of Medi-cine
and Dr. C. C. Sprague of the
University College of Medicine
and Dr. C. C. Sprague of the
University of Texas Southwes-tern
Medical School, will serve
as guests deans.
Dr. Robert C. Berson AAMC
e x e c u t i v e director, and Dr.
Cheves • McC. Smythe, AAMC
associate director, will represent
the association.
Members of the staff of the
Institute for Social Research at
the University of Michigan have
played an active role in the
preparation for the seminar and
will also be leading participants.
