State Eating Habits „
Survey Near Midpoint
With polling in Caddo and
Bossier parishes nearly com-plete,
evaluation of more than
half of Louisiana will have been
completed in a statewide study
of eating habits.

people in the health field have
.conducted a survey on nutrition.
Previous work in the area of
nutrition has been done outside
the United States for the most

physician. Mrs. Barbara Judlin
regional nutritionist at the Caddc
unit, is engaged in all phases of
the survey.

The statewide nutrition surveys
of some 2,000 families in 19
parishes is not aimed at prob-lems
of existing hunger so much
as those of malnutrition, or
faulty eating habits, the spokes-man
added. Findings in the
Louisiana poll will be correlated
with information obtained from
surveys in eight other states
The Volunteer Services Bureau
of Caddo and Bossier Parishes is
assisting with the clinics held in
the various schools.
Similar arrangements for the
Bossier Parish survey are being
made with Dr. H. N. Barnett,
director of the Bossier Parish
Health Unit, and Bossier Parish
School Supt. Emett Cope.

nation. Other states include New
York, Texas, Michigan, Califor-nia,
Washington, Massachusetts,
and Kentucky.
Aiding the state Health De-partment
in the local survey of
Caddo Parish is the Caddo
Parish School Board. Acting
Supt. Donald L. Kennedy has
made available space in the
Union, Ingersoll, Bethune, Green-wood
and Northwood schools in
which clinics conducted by the
survey teams will be held.
Principals of these schools and
nearby schools as well as the
visiting teacher staff have been
personally contacting families
selected for the survey and
encouraging them to attend the
clinics.
Professional members of the
Complete findings from the
8-state nutrition study are ex-pected
to be ready by the early
1969 or mid-summer at the
latest.
