Interim Appointment
Dr. Edgar Hull to Head
Medical School Here
Interim dean of the new Lou-isiana
State University Medical
School at Shreveport is Dr. Ed-gar
Hull, associate dean of the
LSU Medical Center.
Also approved yesterday by
the LSU Board of Supervisors
was the appointment of Dr.
George R. Meneely as professor
of medicine and associate dean
of the new school. Meneely has
served here as coordinator for
development of plans and pro-grams
for the new school since
July 1.
A member of the university's
medical faculty for nearly 35
years, Dr. Hull, 62, has been
serving as associate dean of the
LSU School of Medicine since
1954, and is also professor and
head of its Department of Medi-cine.
He will hold the academic
rank of professor of medicine in
the new school.
A native of Pascagoula, Miss.,
he received his doctor of medi-cine
degree from the Tulane Uni-versity
School of Medicine in
1927, after studying pre-medicine
on the main LSU campus in 1920-
22. He interned at Highland San-itarium
here and was in private
practice in 1931 when he became
a charter member of the LSU
School of Medicine faculty at
New Orleans as an instructor of
medicine.
An authority in the field of
cardiology, Dr. Hull is a mem-ber
of the American Board of
Internal Medicine, and has served
as a visiting member of the
medical faculities of universities
in Formosa and Italy for short
periods since World War II.
The $30 million medical school
here was approved by the Legis-lature
during the recent session.
An opening date has not been
announced but Dr. Hull said that
plans would be more complete
by the end of this year.
