Medical Dean Edgar Hull
Shreveport Med Dean
Dr. Edgar Hull has been named interim
dean of LSU's new School of Medicine
being developed at Shreveport. Dr. George
R. Meneely was named associate dean. Pre-viously
he had served as coordinator of
plans and development in Shreveport. (See

A member of the University's medical
faculty for nearly 35 years, Dr. Hull, 62,
has been serving as associate dean of the
LSU School of Medicine in New Orleans
since 1954, and is also professor and head
of its Department of Medicine. A native
of Pascagoula, Miss., Dr. Hull was a stu-dent
in pre-med on the Baton Rouge cam-pus
from 1920-1922. He received his
medical degree from Tulane in 1927, in-terned
in Shreveport and was in private
practice until the time he became a char-ter
member of the LSU School of Medi-cine
faculty. He has served as acting dean
of the New Orleans Medical School on
several occasions.
Dr. Hull is also a senior visiting physi-cian
on the staff of the Charity Hospital
of Louisiana at New Orleans, and holds
medical staff appointments at the Baptist,
Hotel Dieu, and Mercy Hospitals, as well
as the Touro Infirmary, all in New Or-leans.
An authority in the field of cardiology,
Dr. Hull is a diplomate of the American
Board of Internal Medicine, and has served
as a visiting member of the medical facul-ties
of universities in Formosa and Italy
for short periods since World War II. Dr.
Hull has taught all of the 2,893 physi-cians
who have earned the LSU doctor of
medicine degree.
For several years, Dr. Hull has been
working with Shreveport medical and busi-ness
interests on the establishment of a
medical school there, and later appeared
before legislative committees and the Gov-ernor
in efforts to bring about the Shreve-port
medical school.
