For Medical School Funds
By CHARLES C. PHILLIPS, Journal Staff Member
BATON ROUGE—A joint resolution proposing a consti-tutional

The measure bore the names of
Sens. Charles E. Tooke, Shreve-port,

A joint resolution calling for a
constitutional amendment requires
two-thirds vote of both Houses.
The bill now goes into the cal-endar.

Cost of $1,750,000.
The graduate school proposed in
the joint resolution would cost
approximately $1,750,000 and would
be built as an addition to Confed-erate
Memorial Hospital.
The school would have an an-nual
operating budget of $250,000.
This low figure is possible, it was
pointed out, because much of the
instruction would be given by staff
members at Confederate Me-morial.
The graduate school would re-quire
only a small paid staff.
The joint resolution calls for a
vote on the amendment on Tues-day,
April 17, 1956.

provide an alcoholic and psychia-tric

conducting a medical research
and educational program in con-junction
with the LSU school of
medicine.
Sources of students for the
school would be resident physicians
at Confederate Memorial and other
hospitals, research fellows, under
graduates at the LSU medical
school on rotation, graduate stu-dents
in basic science from LSU
and Centenary and practising
