Medical Society Gathering
Data for New School Here
STUDIES TO gather informa-tion
to be used in planning the
Shreveport branch of the Lou-isiana
State University Medi-cal
School are being under-taken
this summer by members
of the Shreveport Medical So-ciety.
The studies are being made
by committees of local physi-cians
named by Dr. Joe E.
Holoubek, general chairman of
the Medical Society Medical
School Committee.
The committees and the
studies are an outgrowth of
a meeting of representatives
of the Medical Society and
Shreveport Chamber of Com-merce
on June 17 at. Confed-erate
Memorial Medical Cen-ter.
THE CHAMBER has been
working with the Medical So-ciety
on various phases of the
preparations for the studies be-ing
made this summer.
Additional work will be un-dertaken
by the Chamber in
publicity and public relations
when funds are being sought
from the Legislature, Dick
Thevenot, manager of the
Chamber Public Affairs De-partment,
said.
Establishment of the Shreve-port
branch of LSU Medical
School at Confederate Memo-rial
was authorized in a bill
passed during this year's fis-cal
session of the Legislature.
THE LEGISLATION was in-troduced
by State Rep. Ben-nett
Johnston Jr. and it had
the support of Gov. John J.
McKeithen. A delegation of
Shreveport leaders called on
Gov. McKeithen before the bill
was brought up for a vote.
The Medical Society commit-tees
named by Dr. Holoubek
this summer are studying
medical schools — existing
schools, new schools under con-struction—
throughout the na-tion
to gather information on
building design, curriculum,
faculty and staff and other as-pects.
Dr. Holoubek named Dr.
Charles L. Black chairman of
the Medical School Survey
Committee, which will be the
main group in gathering the
information.
OTHER MEMBERS of the
committee include Dr. N. J.
Bender, Dr. Melvin Johnson,
Dr. Heinz Faludi, Dr. Andrew
Mullen, Dr. Karr Shannon, Dr.
Harold Levy, Dr. Robert Wo-mack,
Dr. Charles Knight, and
