LSU Will Accept Titles
To Properties April 20
Louisiana State University will be granted title to
the Nike-Hercules missile site at Stonewall, as well as
the Linwood Apartments for use of the LSU Medical
School at Shreveport at ceremonies here April 20 at
10 a.m.
The missile site is located on
more than 35 acres. It has 21
brick and frame buildings which
will be converted into research
facilities and animal quarters for
the medical school.
LSU President John Hunter
will accept the titles to the two
pieces of property at the Lin-wood
Apartment project.
Other LSU officials expected at
the ceremonies include Dr. Mar-tin
Woodin, executive vice presi-dent
of LSU, Chancellor William
W. Frye, chancellor of the LSU
Medical School in New Orleans
and Dr. Edgar Hull, interim
dean of the LSU Shreveport
Medical School.
Members of the LSU Board of
Supervisors Joseph LeSage and
Col. John Tucker of Shreveport,
and Louis Padgett Jr. of Bossier
City, and Sen. Allen Ellender,
and Russell B. Long. Rep. Joe D.
Waggonner, Shreveport Mayor

Mayor George Nattin are also
expected to be present at the
event.

the Federal Housing Administra-tion

Health, Education and Welfare,

OPERATE HOUSING
LSU plans to continue operat-ing
the Linwood Apartments as a
housing project, officials said
yesterday, but long-range plans
call for utilization as faculty and
student housing and medical
school expansion.
The 296-unit apartment project
is located on a 20-acre tract
between Tulane and Cascade
streets. It was constructed in
1951. Through the years owners
of the $2 million project experi-enced
financial difficulties, and
the FHA finally foreclosed.
From 4 to 12 units are included
in each of the two-story apart-ment
buildings, most of which
have two bedrooms.
Each of the apartments is
complete on one floor, and
off-street parking facilities are
provided.
LSU sold $1 million in bonds
April 4 to finance the initial
development of the Shreveport
School of Medicine.
A contract was signed March
18 for beginning work on the $20
million Medical School. Archifec-tual
firms working on plans are
Samuel G. Wiener Associates.
Wilson Sandifer, and Wiener.
Morgan O'Neal.
The first class of doctors is
expected to be graduated from
the four-year medical school
here in 1973.
