88 get Med School degrees
Eighty-six doctor of medicine and
two master of communication disorders
degrees were conferred at commence-ment
exercises Saturday for the LSU
School of Medicine in Shreveport and
the School of Allied Health Professions.
A dozen of the 88 graduates also
received awards for their academic
performances and outstanding abilities
at the medical facility. Two faculty
members were selected by the
graduates to receive awards.
Dr. Allen A. Copping, medical center
chancellor, conferred doctor of
medicine degrees upon 86 students from
the medical school. The two master of
communication disorders degrees went
to students from the allied health pro-fessions
school.
Dr. Benjamin Rush, a clinical as-sociate
professor of surgery, delivered
the keynote address.
The Chancellor's Award was pre-sented
to Lawrence N. Koenig, who was
selected for demonstrating high
academic standing, leadership ability
and the highest professional attitudes.
Durwin D. Walker received the 1981
Academic Achievement Award for
maintaining the highest cumulative
average for the four years.
Other students receiving awards
were Keith Strain, Robert T. Lucas
Award; Joseph C. Martinez, Louisiana
Orthopedic Award; Isaac D. Broussard
and Earl J. Brown, Louisiana Pathology
Society Award; Dean E. Robinson, The
Bick Award; Susan A. Williams, The Lee
Ann Koskie Memorial Fund Award;
William P. Kinnebrew. The Family
Practice Award; Richard L. Byrd, The
Shreveport Medical Society Award;
Volney E. Pierce Jr., Upjohn Award:
and Arthur M. Feldman, The Lewis
Gottlieb Scholar Award.
Dr. Joseph A. Bocchini Jr., assistant
professor of pediatrics, received the Dr.
Clarence H. Webb Award for outstand-ing
clinical instructor for 1981. The
1981 Adrian F. Reed Award for outstan-ding
basic science instructor was given
to Dr. Warren D. Grafton, professor of
pathology.
