Auxiliary schedules
babysitter training

Times Medical Writer
The babysitcr training course of the
Shreveport Medical Society Auxiliary is
scheduled for Nov. 14 at Willis-
Knighton Medcal Center, the co-spon-sor
this year.
The course is called GEMS, for Good
Emergency Mather Substitutes, and is
for for boys aid girls aged 12 and older.
They can ngister with the Willis-
Knighton community relations depart-ment,
telephone 227-4727 or 227-4850.
They will te taught infant and child
care, ethics and responsibilities,
pediatric emergencies, safety in the
home, personal safety, basic
cardiopulmonary resuscitation,
creative playand fire safety.
Instruction will be given by an emer-gency
medical technician from the
Shreveport Fire Department; Susan
Richardson, lead nurse of the newborn
nursery at Hghland Hospital; Sgt. Sher-rie
Carter o!the Caddo Parish Sheriff's
Department; Mary Cureington,
pediatric nurse at Wlllis-Knighton; Jo
Ann Reddei, kindergarten teacher at
First Bapist Church School; and
Katherine Lusk and Marguerite Allen of
the medical auxiliary.
Aging conference
Charles Ravenna of Shreveport and
Raymond Doss and Joe Sheppard of
Ruston will be delegates to the 1981
White House Conference on Aging Nov.
29-Dec. 3 in Washington.
Ravenia and Sheppard are assistant
state directors of the National Retired
Teachers' Association. Doss is vice
chairmain of the state legislative com-mittee
of the NRTA and American
Association of Retired Persons.
Black, nurses
The monthly meeting of the
Shreveport, Black Nurses Association
will be heliat 4:30 p.m. Nov. 14 at the
YMCA's Alendale Branch, 700 Pierre
St.
Group hypnosis
Another group hypnosis program —
to help stop smoking and lose weight —
will be presented here by the American
Lung Association of Louisiana Inc.
It is scheduled for Nov. 13 at Chez
Vous Motor Inn, the smoking session at
7 p.m. and the weight session at 9 p.m.
The fee is $35 for each.
Sessions will be conducted by Sue
Weingarden, a certified clinical hypno-tist
with the Self Psych Clinic in South-field,
Mich. According to W. Findley
Raymond, executive director of the
Louisiana Lung Association, she con-ducts
such sessions for lung associations
across the United States.
Recertification
Dr. David T. Henry of Shreveport has
been recertified as a diplomate of the
American Board of Family Practice.

every six years to continue to show
proof of competency in the primary
care specialty of family practice. No
other medical specialty requires
diplomates to prove competence on a
continuing basis, says the academy.
Volunteers
Volunteers gave 47,692 hours of ser-vice
to LSU Medical Center here be-tween
Sept. 1, 1980 and Aug. 31, 1981.
LSUMC thanked its volunteers at a
banquet last month.
