Bossier man
Deep in the recesses of the
Northwestern State University School
of Nursing Building's basement is the
LSU Medical Center's Department of
Micrographic Services.
Its director sits behind a desk,
behind him the tools of his profession
— the microfilm machines he uses to
record the hospital's personnel,
payroll, accounting and purchasing
records.
Beside Butch Harrington's desk is
another invaluable piece of equip-ment
— a wheelchair. He has
cerebral palsy.
Harrington's ability to contribute
to the community despite his han-dicap
was recognized today when he
received the the Arnold J. Falk
Award for Achievement.
The annual award, named for the
Community Council's executive
director, recognizes a notable con-tribution
by a disabled person who
has managed to work productively
despite a handicap.
The award presentation was made
during the "Saluta to the Han-dicapped"
luncheon at the First Un-ited
Methodist Church of Bossier.
Harrington, 38, graduate from
Woodlawn High and Draughon Busi-

ness College, where he majored in
business administration and account-ing.
Before going to LSU Medical
Center two years ago, he was
employed as an accountant for IDS
Inc. Harrington and his wife, Pam,
live in Bossier Citv.
Western Electric was chosen
"Employeer of the Year" for its con-tinued
outstanding record for employ-ing
the handicapped.
Attending the event, sponsored by
the Community Council, were Com-munity
Council President Mrs. John
Hussey; state Rep. Forrest Dunn, past
president of the Community Council;
U.S. Rep. Buddy Roemer and former
Falk Award recipients.
