Harvard professor to lecture at Medical Center
Dr. Susumu Ito of Harvard Medical
School will be the first in the 1982
Visiting Scientists series at LSU Medi-cal
Center, lecturing at 11 a.m. Friday
in the medical school auditorium.
His subject will be "Studies on Acid
Secretion, Injury and Rapid Repair of
the Gastric Mucosa."
Ito, a professor of anatomy at
Harvard, is an electron microscopist of
international repute, according to
LSUMC. He has long been interested in
the fine structure of the gastrointestinal
tract, especially the gastric parietal
cell.
He is a member of the American
Association of Anatomists, the Ameri-can
Society of Cell Biologists, the New
York Academy of Science, the Electron
Microscope Society, the American Soci-ety
for the Study of Reproduction and
the American Society of Gastroen-terology.
Ito received his master of science and
doctor of philosophy degrees from Case
Western University in Cleveland. He
was a fellow at the Max Planck In-stitute
in Wilhelmshaven, Germany, in
1956. He joined the Harvard Medical
School faculty in 1960.
