have voted to confer h{lJ1orary
doc tor ate degrees upon Dr.
Edgar Hull. retiring dean of the
LSU School of Medicine. and
Ba.xter D. Goodrich. chai(man
of the board of Texas Eastern
Transmission Corp.
Dr. Hull will receive the
h 0 nor a r y doctor of humane
letters degree and Goodrich will
receive the honorary doctor of
laws de g r e e. They will be
con fer red at the Centenary
commencement exercises m the
Gold Dome. May 27. at 8 p.m.
Dr. Hull has been asked to
deliver the commencement address
to the senior class followmg
the conferral of his degree.
He was recently honored bv the
Chamber of Coinmerce and the
City of S h rev e p 0 r t [or his
contributIOns to the community
Dr. Hull. a nativE' of Pascagoula.
Miss .• r e c e j v e d his
premedical training at LSU and
hiS M.D degree from Tulane
University. He interned at the
Highland Cliruc. engaged m the
private practice of medicine ill
Pleasant Hill, from 1929-1931
and bas been on the faculty of
the LSU School of Medicine
since 1931.
He was promoted \.Q the rank
of associate clean of the School
01 Medicine in New Orleans in
1954, interim dean of the School
of Medicine in Shreveport lJl
1966 and dean of the Shreveport
school lJl 1967. The "Edgar Hull
Alumni Professorship in Medicine"
was established in his
honor by the LoUiSiana State
Umversity Board of Supervisors
in HI67 and he was named a
Master in the American College
of PhySICians in 1970.
Goodrich IS the son of the late .. -ot#~ .... ;.;..
Dr. Robert E. Goodl ich, who
served as pastor of the Fj.r~t '
Methodist Church of Shreveport
in the early 1920s. He attended
high school in Shreveport. and
received a bachelor ot sCience
degree in engineering from Rice
UniverSity in 1935 Following
employment by the M.W. Kellogg
Co. and United Gas Pipeline
Co. and the United States
Navy, where he attained the
rank of lieutenant commander
he joined Texas Eastern as Vlce
president and chief engineer in
1947.
He was elected president and
cruef executive officer of t be
com pan y in 1965 and later
assumed the duties of chairman
of the board. HE' has been active
over the years in romIlllttee
work with the American Gas
Ass 0 cia t ion and is a pftt
member of the board of trustees
of the lnc;titute of Gas Technologv.
He is currently chairman of
the Indenendent Nat u r a I Gas
Association of America.
