Occupational health conference
scheduled here next month
More than 100 Louisiana doctors and nurses are
expected to attend the annual occupational health
conference of the Louisiana Occupational Health
Nurses Association and Louisiana Occupational
Medicine Association here next month.
The two-day conference will be held Sept. 11-12
at Sheraton Inn in Bossier City. Both associations
will elect new officers.
Scheduled the first day are two continuing
education workshops: "Human Sexuality in In-dustry,"
to be conducted by Dr. Andrew J. Mullen,
clinical professor of psychiatry at LSU Medical
Center in Shreveport; and "Assessment of the
Pulmonary System," by Susan Williams, assistant
professor in the master's degree nursing program
of Northwestern State University.
Toxicology will be the subject on the second day,
when speakers will address tetanus, fire dangers,
the epidemiology of household poisoning, insec-ticides
and pesticides, bleaches and their interac-tions,
heavy metal exposure, bites and stings,
plants and mushrooms, and principles of chemical
carcinogenesis.
Speakers are Drs. Helmut Redetzki, Barbara
Manno and Joseph Manno of the pharmacology and
therapeutics department at LSUMC; Dr. Randall S.
Rosenberger of the LSUMC infectious diseases
section; B.N. Brooks of the Shreveport Fire Depart-ment;
and Mark Middlebrooks, director of the
Poison Control Center at LSUMC.
Conferees will meet from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. each
day and wind up with an installation banquet on the
last night.
Eileen Sheridan of General Motors is general
chairman and Gladys Page of Western Electric is
registration chairman.
Twenty-one registered nurses are engaged in
occupational nursing in the Shreveport-Bossier
area. Four are certified as occupational nurses.
