Pharmaceutical award given
Nick E. Goeders of LSU Medical Center
has received an advanced predoctoral fel-lowship
from the Pharmaceutical Manufac-turers
Association Foundation Inc.
His is one of 12 grants awarded by the
foundation this year to assist candidates
who have one or two years remaining in
their predoctoral training in pharmacology
or toxicology, during which time they are
engaged in their thesis research.
Goeders' research involves a study of the
neurobiology of stimulant reward systems.
His advisor is Dr. James E. Smith, associate
professor of pharmacology and psychiatry.
The Pharmaceutical Manufacturers As-sociation
Foundation has set aside nearly
$1.3 million for awards this year for univer-sity
research and training programs. This
brings to more than $12 million the amount
it has given since 1965 for pharmacological
and therapeutic advancement.
Goeder is one of 55 people the 1982 grants
will assist.
