Dr. Glasser Is
Elected Head
Dr. Stephen P. Glasser, chief of the
cardiology section at the LSU medical
Center in Shreveport, has been elected
president of the Northwest Heart Unit of
the American Heart Association. He suc-ceeds
Mandel Selber Jr., outgoing presi-dent.
Other new officers are Jack R. Martin
of Bossier City, administrator of Bossier
City General Hospital,
vice president; Mrs.
Robert B. Richardson of
Grand Cane, secretary;
and 0. A. Griffey III, a
loan officer at Com-mercial
National Bank
of S h r e v e p o r t ,
treasurer.
The Northwest Unit
includes Caddo, Bossier
and DeSoto parishes
and members of the unit Dr. S. P. Glasser
are physicians and volunteers from the
three parishes.
The purpose of the unit is to provide
community leadership relating to
cardiovascular disease problems. Its ob-jectives
also include public
and professional education and fund rais-ing
to further research in heart disease
throughout Louisiana.
Dr. Glasser served as director of a
mass hypertension screening program in
Shreveport and Bossier City in 1974 and is
a member of the executive committee of
the Louisiana Heart Association.
He received his medical degree from
the University of Miami Medical School in
1964. He completed his internship at Let-terman
General Hospital in San Fran-cisco,
Calif., in 1965 and served his re-sidency
in internal medicine at Tripler
General Hospital in Honolulu, Hawaii,
from 1965 to 1968 and at Walter Reed
General Hospital in Washington from
1968-1969.
